Graduation and beyond

Graduation. Don't I look smart with the cap and gown? As the weeks slip by from the graduation service, the realisation that I am going to actually be employed in the very field I studied in is making me a little anxious. I graduated with a B. Ed. "with distinction" from the University of Manitoba in June of 2005, which is an honour. The honour, however, is somewhat diminished when 50% of your Education classmates also have the same distinction. (Only 25% of the males graduated with distinction - so that make me feel at least a little more... distinct.)
I have spent the weeks after the completion of my own classes working as a substitute teacher for Winnipeg School Division, as well as Westgate - the school I was most recently doing my practicum. I also spent a week discovering that I am allergic to mango peel and it takes a week for the swelling and itchiness to go away. That was not much fun. When I wasn't called in to sub, I spent time at the U of M working on i-movie projects or simply using the internet.
Wanting to do be active in the summer, I also worked a some weeks at camp. I felt a little conspicuous when on the first Sunday, we were asked how many years we have worked at camp. Many were stating it was their first, second or third year. The directors were up to eight years. I humbly said thirteen and passed the mic to the next person.
I have been slowly getting ready for teaching in the UK since June, but now that my flight is in a week, I have focused a lot more on what small projects need to be completed before I leave as well as preparing for the move itself. I have yet to finalise permanent lodging in Colchester, which is a big concern for me right now. On the positive side, I will be staying at the London Mennonite Centre for the first week as my home base while I attend meetings around the area.
I am also in the process of testing different blog platforms to see what I like best. I will keep you updated as to my final choice.
Cheers
Kevin
