Work is slowing picking up

Well, there is a big time gap between my last entry and today. I guess that is somewhat symbolic of the lack of news since September. Besides, my counter shows there has been very little activity on my blog since I have returned to Canada, so I have less incentive to add more to it. Now that I'm back, people can just ask me how things are going when I see them around rather than checking up on the blog. But for those who still check in once in a while, I'll bring you up to speed.
Despite several applications to various school divisions in and around Winnipeg whilst in the UK, I had not received a single call for an interview. Fair enough. Why bother to phone overseas to someone you can't see when you have dozens of applicants willing to meet you? When I got back, there were only a handful of science related jobs posted, to which I did apply but again received no call. Because I was back only in the beginning of August, I had to wait till the beginning of September for government paperwork so I could apply for substitute positions. I was able to get on the private school in which I did my second year practicum, but since it's a small school, the offers will be very sparse. As of last week, I finally got confirmation that I was on one school division list, and by the end of the month I will be on 2 or maybe 3 more. Today was my first day subbing in a class (finally!). Hopefully this will pick up more for the end of October and maybe by November I could be called 3 or 4 times a week taking in account that I'll be on 3 or 4 lists.
In other news, I have been able to keep somewhat busy (and earning money to cover the payments for my car) doing research assistance for the former director of the Mennonite Archives. I also am glad to be active once again at my church and I am being asked to join several committees and services. To keep busy and practice answering questions, I have started with Yahoo! Answers. Last week I was in the top 5 Canadian weekly points with over 1,000. It's feels somewhat teacher-like to be fielding questions again, but it doesn't pay the bills...
I golfed my first game in over a year with my dad on Thanksgiving Monday, wearing just a light jacket, and on Tuesday night we had a blanket of snow and wind warnings. Ah yes! I'm back in Canada!
Shalom
Kevin
